Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) Services

Consistent temperature distribution is critical to the safety, reliability, and quality of thermally processed parts. Our national network of local calibration providers delivers the documented uniformity data you rely on—supporting process control, preventing out-of-spec results, and reducing costly liability risks.

Our Temperature Uniformity Services

Temperature Uniformity Surveys support any operation relying on furnaces, ovens, and thermal processing equipment where consistent temperature directly affects product quality and process control

Furnaces, ovens, and other thermal processing equipment rarely heat with perfect uniformity—hot spots and cold spots can develop throughout the chamber, putting parts at risk of under- or over-processing even when the control system reads an accurate setpoint. Temperature Uniformity Surveys verify how consistently a furnace or oven maintains temperature across its entire working volume, providing the data manufacturers need to demonstrate process control, meet customer specifications, and produce consistent, reliable results.

Our Process

A Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) is a systematic process of placing multiple calibrated thermocouples throughout a furnace or oven's working chamber to measure and document temperature consistency across the entire load volume. Rather than verifying accuracy at a single control point, a TUS captures the real temperature distribution parts actually experience during processing, identifying any variation between the hottest and coldest zones within the chamber.

During a survey, technicians position thermocouples according to the required grid pattern and chamber size, then monitor and record temperature readings across all sensor locations as the equipment stabilizes at the specified setpoint. This data is compiled into a comprehensive report showing the temperature at each test location, the spread between the highest and lowest readings, and whether the equipment falls within the required uniformity classification. Results are typically supported by System Accuracy Tests, along with calibration of the associated temperature controllers, control thermocouples, and temperature recorders that make up the complete thermal control system.

Our Temperature Uniformity Services

Our technicians provide comprehensive testing of thermal processing equipment and its associated control instrumentation:

  • Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS): Multi-point thermocouple testing throughout the working chamber to document temperature distribution and identify hot or cold zones across the load volume.

  • System Accuracy Tests (SAT): Verification that the equipment's control and monitoring instrumentation accurately reflects actual chamber temperature, confirming the reliability of the readings used to control the process.

  • Temperature Controller Calibration: Calibration of the instruments that regulate furnace and oven temperature, ensuring the control system maintains the correct setpoint.

  • Control TC Calibration: Calibration of the control thermocouples that provide feedback to the temperature controller, verifying the accuracy of the signal driving process control.

  • Temperature Recorder Calibration: Calibration of the instruments used to document process temperatures over time, ensuring your process records are accurate and defensible.
